Melanie Travis, writer/director

Melanie Travis is an independent filmmaker living in Brooklyn, NY. She is a graduate of Haverford College and attended the California Institute of the Arts graduate filmmaking program and the Prague Center for Film Studies. She’s made a number of shorts, both fiction and documentary, in the United States, France, Austria, and Bulgaria. When she’s not making or watching films, she’s riding her bike around NYC and playing with her beloved dog, Sara. See more of her work at

Jesse James Malings, producer

Jesse has been a freelancer on the indie film scene since 2000 and is a founding member of Workshop Cinema, a small production company based in NYC.

Sofian Khan, director of photography

In 2007 Sofian founded Capital K Pictures, a NY-based production house focusing on the production of short films, music videos and feature length narrative and documentary projects. Sofian served as cinematographer on “Ramchand Paksitani” (2008), which premiered at Tribeca and won awards at the London, Osian and Fribourg film festivals— with ensuing theatrical releases in India, UK and Pakistan. Sofian made his directorial debut the following year with “Destined to be Ingested”, a low budget horror-comedy available on DVD from Midnight Releasing. That same year, Sofian directed a short film, “Small Voices” co-produced by New York Films International, that won Best Short at the 2008 South Asian International Film Festival sponsored by HBO, and has since played at over 20 festivals worldwide. www.CapitalKPictures

Lauren Buchter, composer

Lauren Buchter is a film composer living in New York City.  A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Lauren received a BM in Film Scoring and has scored several short films, as well as provide music for ABC’s 20/20.  In 2005, Lauren traveled overseas to Milan, Italy to study composition with noted composer Filippo del Corno (founder of Ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi), as well as electronic music at Accademia Internazionale della Musica.  Her compositions have been performed by such noteworthy groups as the New York Youth Symphony, Kalistos Chamber Orchestra, Musica Bella Orchestra of New York,  Symphony Singers, Esterhazy Quartet and students of The Juilliard School.  A frequent collaborator of dance, she has written music for American Ballet Theatre, Above and Beyond Dance, Youth American Grand Prix Competition, NYC Aerial Dance Festival and the Bare Bones Dance Festival. Raquel Cedar, production design/art department

Raquel Cedar discovered her passion for production design while studying film production at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.  As a designer, Cedar focuses on the human complexities within the script, allowing the sets to develop into uniquely imaginative yet realistic environments for the characters to inhabit.  She has designed a feature, several short films, and music videos and is very excited to be working on The Apartment this fall.  In addition to designing, Cedar works as a freelance art director and art department coordinator.  To view her work please visit
